japan animals

I believe that most of us are following with great concern Japan nuclear crisis and the rescue missions to the tsunami and earthquake affected areas.

Not only people, but also animals, are victims of this catastrophe and were a week ago all was normal, today doesn't exist anymore.

So today, I pray they can solve this terrifying nuclear problem and finally to start being able to rebuild their devastated land.

Pets in a new 3D virtual world

Review about virtual pets, Nintendogs + Cats 3DS
Nintendogs + Cats 3DS

As someone that has dogs and occasionally breeds them, I sometimes face with people that the first thing they ask, do they shade a lot ? do they make much noise ? are they over exited ? ...
Those questions most of the times make me throw the answer, buy a toy, instead.

Now, with a new 3D potable technology being released, guess what ... many people will buy virtual pets instead ... or maybe not ...

Nintendogs + Cats 3DS

Anyway, imagine a portable world, where we begin by choosing a puppy from one of several breeds. Some puppies are outgoing and friendly, while others are selfish and stubborn. Each puppy temperament provides it's own unique set of training issues but their end results can be rewarding. Once you have selected your puppy, you will bring it home and start to bond with it. Using the stylus and touch pad you scratch the puppy's ears and rub its belly in order to welcome the puppy into your home and make it feel safe.

Next, you can take advantage of the in-play microphone by naming your dog and repeatedly calling it by its name till it understands you. As you continue through the game you are encouraged to train your dog and teach it tricks so the use of the mic is not a one-time deal. You will be calling out commands to your dog as well as its name, again, taking full advantage of the DS's tricks. As you continue to work with your dog, you will find that once you have brought a puppy into your home, it does require love and constant attention. In fact neglecting the puppy and not playing with it on a regular basis will breed the kind of dog we don't want.

Nintendogs + Cats 3DS

The more you work with your dog the healthier and stronger it becomes allowing for longer play time and training. You will eventually find yourself walking around to parks and training facilities. Go to the park and begin your Frisbee playing. Go to the training facility and work on those tricks. Get where I'm going with this? Eventually you will enter your dog into competitions and begin winning prize money. Money you can use to buy items and dog toys and ... more puppies!

Now this cute and cuddly Nintendogs of the DS era have been brought to life in the new game for the Nintendo 3DS !

And with they more realistic features they will also allow
* Visualize your pet in 3D
* Pets interact with the owner via the Nintendo 3DS camera
* Features Facial recognition technology
* Exchange Pets via StreetPass
* Pets can mimic their owner
* Augmented reality feature

So, maybe many lonely people without the patience to have real pets, should consider this new technology solution that allow them to love, care, train and even show their pet ;)

Dog Trekking to Cabo Espichel

Article about Dog Trekking to Cabo Espichel

Australian Shepherd in Cabo Espichel
Teco, my Australian Shepherd ,in one of the views of the Atlantic Ocean

dog trekking in Cabo EspichelThis weekend there was a dog trekking to Cabo Espichel organized by the association Pé ante Pata. On this dog trekking I took my faithful Teco, my Australian Shepherd blue merle.
Cabo Espichel is located near Sesimbra, just take the path towards Sesimbra and follow the arrows.
My last visit was in my youth, taken by my parents and really had no recollection of this cable that enters the Atlantic Ocean.
The view is amazing because the landscape is arid and dotted with a few buildings surrounded by ocean.

Shrine of Our Lady of Mua Stone

The buildings are referred to the Shrine of Our Lady of Pedra Mua, and our guides mentioned a legend created to justify the remains of dinosaur footprints in the 18th century, and of course searching the net we find the so called legend,

Memory Chapel

Frei Agostinho of Santa Maria (17, Tomo II, p. 474) narrates it with details: «(…) claim that Our Lady appeared on the beach that lies beneath the same rock where he built Ermidinha, which appeared on her donkey, and that the donkey had climbed up the rock, and that it climbed using hands and feet and leaving printed traces of the hands and feet (…)». Stressing the «tradition of those who saw it stated, and the signs were timeworn», he adds that the Ermida «founded on the place were Our Lady stopped» and that the chapel «often undid the time; but the devotion of those who serve, reformed so many times, despite its rigors.»

So there is no doubt that this trips enrich us culturally ;)

Ok, from the historical and cultural part, we go into the trip itself …

As heavy rain fall on the night before, I was waiting until the last hour that this dog trekking was postponed and fear that on Sunday, only half a dozen people would show up. It surprised me, the sunny day and the number of people who came ... there is no doubt that these dog trekking have become a success and attracted many people.

Dog Trekking to Cabo Espichel

They are very pleasant walks in the midst of very nice people that make you feel very welcome. And despite of today that I feel like a 80 old women with very sore legs, I know that in the next dog trekking I will do my best to be there.

Dog Trekking to Cabo Espichel

Until today this is the dog trekking that demanded more from me and that wasn't due to the number of miles walked, but more to the status of the tracks were the rains open ditches and made mud rivers, that required more effort to overcome.

Overall it was a trip with breathtaking views, in a nice friendly atmosphere, punctuated with challenges. Many thanks to the organization for this experience ;)

Agility 10º Open

Agility 10º Open
Yesterday was the Agility 10º Open from Os Cãogurus and finally, even in extreme cold conditions, me and Angel, my Australian Shepherd, were able to show some positive results. Of course we made some faults, but globally it was a very rewarding experience.

Demos in VI Animal Show

VI Animal Show
On this weekend took place the VI Animal Show, on Jardim Almeida Garrett, in Portela (Loures).

These initiatives are created with the goal to promote and educate the population in their relation with their pets.

Since the dog is the pet more adopted by the families has their 4 leg companion, it is on him that this kind of events is more focus.

Pedro Araújo of Doggy Clube presented by João Sá, of the Os Cãogurus, the school that organized the event

As such, in this event, several schools, associations and other entities were represented and it was possible to watch a demonstration of physical therapy and its benefits organized by the Monte dos Vendavais, watch a demonstration of obedience organized by Os Cãogurus, where the Obedience National Champion made a demo temperate by a Frisbee game, and watch a agility demonstration also organized by the school Os Cãogurus.

Other initiatives, like adoption of animals, interaction with animal, like rabbits, ponies and horses (made available by Escola Profissional Agrícola D. DINIS - Paiã), were also available to the visitors.

Me and my sun, as members of the team Os Cãogurus, couldn’t have ceased to be at this event to help represent the school.

For my sun it was a very positive experience, because, until now, no working or showing attitude was requested to him as a representative of his work with Bianca, his Golden Retriever.

Of course, not all was gold, since as a child, he was extremely exited with the games that were available for the kids in the event, or he was exited with riding the horse and ponies, or he was exited with the other animals like rabbits, or … So it was difficult for him to calm down and focus on the important task of represent the club and some exercises were forgotten (I hope the master wasn’t to mad).

But to be fair, Bianca in her Golden Retrievernature and in the middle of much pamper from the children also forgets to turn off the “pamper” mode and turn on the “working” mode, so she doesn’t focus on the demanding tasks (yes a lot of patience is required) and so adding the Bianca excitement with my sun excitement we got ...

Well, but his mother wasn’t exactly perfect and she is older and experience.

australian shepherd in obedience

It is never easy to work with dogs in a middle of a crowd and with extra distractions like smells, other animals and females in that “hiper appealing” phase, is lesser easier. So in the obedience demo, me and Teco, my Australian Shepherd, on the first day wasn’t so bad, but on the 2º day he wasn’t foul by the tasty rewards and the “hiper appealing” colleague odour attract him (I thought in placing a nose mask) and his work was far from good (oh, well, now the master can shoot us).

Angel, my Australian Shepherd in the agility demonstration

At this stage I thought that Angel, my Australian Shepherd, would save our good name and represent us in a glorious manner … but or her owner, like a crooked head she sometimes is, got wrong in leading, or the distractions were so many that we couldn’t got the slalom right, witch left us frustrated and very sad.

Well, we went, make our presence, showed will and tried to shine ... only it was a very low fainted shine ... << sigh >>

Anyway it was always a learning experience and we only have to thank our presence to the school Os Cãogurus and to the organization by Câmara Municipal de Loures.
